Welcome!

Thank you for visiting First Baptist Church. We would like to give you some information about our church and it’s ministries. For our Summer Worship, we hold our service on Sunday mornings at 9:00am and Sunday School begins at 10:15am. We have Infant Nursery Service available for these times as well as Children’s Church for Ages 3,4 & 5 and Elementary Children’s Church for Ages 6 through 5th Grade. We have Sunday School for all ages as well. If you have any questions or to schedule a meeting with one of our Pastors call 815-234-8737.

What an exciting time it is to share in what God is doing in our Church @ First Baptist, in our Byron community and surrounding area, and in our Church Conference, Converge Worldwide and Converge Midwest. Reports in the media focus on the instability of our economy. It could be tempting to allow Satan to infect us with fear in these times. Will we allow the economic downturn to diminish our ministry dreams or dampen our faith? Absolutely not! Hebrews 13:5-6 tells us: “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’ So we say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?”. The Lord IS my helper; I will NOT be afraid. What can man do to me? It is our blessing to be able to speak these words with emphasis and with confidence! God is our helper and He will never leave us or forsake us. What a blessing! In threatening economic times, remember, we hold the trump card: God’s promises backed by God’s faithfulness.

We at First Baptist have a bold vision, a bold faith, bold prayers and bold ministry. We will not be afraid. May our God be glorified as we boldly serve Him. We invite you to join with us!

Pastor's Pen:

EASTER
Ever wonder what the word Easter means or came from? I did a little research and found some interesting facts. First, the word Easter comes from an old German word which meant “sunrise”. That would make sense as the women went early to find the empty tomb. I think maybe God planned it that way since sunrise means so much, a new day has arrived, darkness is past, and we have a new start. When is the last time you have seen the sunrise? There is something moving watching it.

So where did we get the Easter bunny? That came in the 8th century when they named the goddess of light and spring Eastre’. Her symbols were the egg and the hare. So began the Easter bunny. I find it interesting to see in history how man rebels against God and would rather worship Eastre’ and her hare rather than the living Savior.

The problem isn’t just in history, because our generation is no different. A recent survey showed only 40% of Americans knew the true meaning of Easter. They don’t know that Jesus died and rose for their sins. We have got work to do. Recently one of our dads was talking to his preschooler about Easter. Expecting the boy to be excited about the Easter bunny the child told his dad that his preschool teacher told him the real meaning of Easter was Jesus rising from the dead for our sins. He believed it. Why are so many adults choosing to believe in a hare and an egg? Maybe we need to tell them.

Keep The Faith,
Pastor Randy
